How To Convert Your Blog Readers Into Paying Customers

blogging

This is one of the questions I get aske most often: “How can I monetize my company’s blog?” And this question is perfectly justified; yes, a blog helps with SEO and with establishing your company as a leader in its industry, but, at the end of the day, can it help you make real money? Aside from adding AdSense to it (which, just to be clear, I would NEVER recommend for a company blog), there are plenty of ways to convert your blog readers into paying customers. Here are some of the tactics I used for Idunn’s blog, as well as for some of my customers’ blogs:

Add CTAs to each of your blog posts

(You’ll see one at the end of this post)

It may seem like an obvious tactic, but you’d be surprised of how many people simply disregard it. A little self-promotion never hurt everyone. People who read your posts are obviously interested in what you have to say and by adding a CTA you can only remind them that you can offer them even more.

If you’re still reluctant about adding one, think of it this way: some of your readers may come from organic searches (for instance, more than 20% of my blog’s readers are acquired this way), which means that they may not know about the services you provide. This could be your first (and last) chance to convert your blog readers into paying customers.

Don’t give everything away

Write relevant things and always start with your potential customers’ point of pain: what problems do they want to solve? Answer this question in your blog posts in order to keep them relevant. BUT never answer it completely. Here’s an example: this article offers you the general framework of monetizing your blog, but it does not give you specifics: what CTAs to add, how to find out which are the problems your customers need solving or how to advertise your blog and include it at the perfect spot in your customers’ journey. For that, you have the CTA button below.

Use your company blog to collect e-mail addresses

Ask people to subscribe to your blog in order to get the newest posts on their email. This helps you build a solid base of leads that you know are already interested in your products or services. Next: analyze what they’ve read in order to learn which product or service they might be most interested in.

Then, all you have to do is create an email drip – at least seven emails sent to your email leads over time. Pro tip: approximately 5% of leads will convert via email. So, if you have 200 email addresses in your database, you can expect roughly 10 new customers. If your conversion rates are much lower than this, it means your email drip is not efficient and you should think about a new approach and/or better copy.

Create a sense of urgency with special promotions

You can create special offers for your company blog readers or add links to coupons or deals that will soon expire at the end of your blog posts. Just make sure that the offer is relevant for the reader of the post.
