It’s Time you Left your Office – You don’t Need it anymore

Work from anywhere

Look at your monthly expenses. How much are you spending on your office? Ever thought about investing that money in something else? Don’t say this is a “fixed expense” and there’s nothing you can do about it. According to a study published by Regus in 2013, 48% of the interviewed employees said they were working remotely for half the week or more. And it gets better: you can actually work remotely full time and here’s why:

Reason #1: Technology is your best friend

Think past the old e-mail and work messenger and you will see that you can have a full work day in the tiny case of your laptop: cloud computing makes file sharing a breeze, you can have virtual meeting and virtual presentation and you can even have a virtual assistant. Basically, everything you need is a click away.

Reason #2: The up and coming workforce is not a fan of offices

You probably already know that Millennials, the generation everyone is talking about is soon to make up the majority of the workforce. But Millennials are those people who don’t want a car because they prefer to spend that money on an awesome trip and who don’t want a mortgage because they hate being pinned down. How do you think they feel about grey, dull cubicals and the 9 to 5 schedule? In fact, recent studies show that even today’s employees favor employers who offer flexible schedule and the possibility of remote work.

Reason #3: You don’t have to waste time and money anymore

Real estate is pricy everywhere; plus, think about all the other things an office needs: coffee makers, coffee and tea supplies, furniture and so on. If you turn part of the money you spend on these things in bonuses for your employees, everybody wins. Plus, you no longer have to spend time in traffic getting to the office and back home. If your schedule starts at 9 am, you have to be up by at least 7:30 in order to make it in time. If you work from home, you just need to make sure you have enough time to make coffee and brush your teeth. OK, maybe some time for breakfast, too. Still, no more than half an hour. You get an extra hour to sleep in or do whatever you want – rested employees are better employees.

Reason #4: Happier employees

Working remotely doesn’t mean you have to work from home. In fact, your mobile office can be anywhere you have an Internet connection: a coffee shop, the park, a restaurant or even a beach in Thailand. This flexibility allows people to get that sought-after work-life balance. If they can also choose their own schedule, you’ll get nothing but happy employees who never want to leave you. Why would they?

I’m sure you can add up to this list. If you’re a happy remote worker or employer, share your experience with us in the comment section below.
