5 Reasons Why You Should Outsource Your Content Writing
In the spirit of full transparency, I should start this by saying that I, too, was a firm believer that all content should be done in-house. Back in my days as a marketing manager, I wanted to do everything myself. After all, how much time can it take to generate valuable NEW content every week, proofread it, publish it, distribute it, follow-up with it and make the necessary tweaks in the sales funnel every once in a while – all that on top of everything else a marketer has to do? Well, it turns out it takes A LOT of time, much more than a marketer without a huge team has.
So, what changed? Ultimately, even though I hate to admit it, my content got sloppy and uninteresting; I had no choice but to break my own heart (even then, I loved content writing with a passion!) and delegate. And guess what? It went better than expected. So, without further ado, here are my top reasons for which outsourcing the content writing is the best thing you can do:
1. A fresh perspective
You know your business’ ins and outs and your products better than your own children, so who else would be more qualified to write about them? Granted, you even know where to put backlinks to generate more clicks, but what if there’s a better way? After being immersed in an industry for so long, you tend to overuse the jargon and complicate the content. You constantly need to remember yourself that your clients need to be educated on your products, so you have tone down the specialized lingo a notch. An outside content writer does not need to do that. Such people are extremely versatile and can move from topic to topic; plus, their content looks as if it were written by specialists (such as yourself) only translated in proper terms for your target audience.
2. “The medium is the message”
– McLuhan used to say. In other words, you need to adapt every piece of content that you are producing to the medium of distribution. Today’s marketers have to worry about A LOT of such mediums and, let’s face it, you can’t master them all perfectly. Why not let a specialist handle the task? Under your close supervision, of course!
3. You won’t lose sight of what’s truly important.
Your time is better spent figuring out how to sync your content strategy with the rest of your marketing strategy than doing the actual writing. A bit of bird’s eye view is very refreshing for any type of business.
4. You won’t forget about consistency.
Sure, you might have planned to write a new blog post every week and a new e-book every two months, but sales reports and board meetings can easily get in the way and make you postpone the tasks that can be easily postponed – and content writing ranks very high in this area. When you outsource this, you simply need to tell your content writer what your publishing calendar is and consistency will be ensured!
5. It’s cheaper.
Hard as it may be to believe it, outsourcing your content writing is cheaper than doing it in-house. According to entrepreneur.com, content marketing costs about 62% LESS than traditional marketing, BUT it generates three times as many leads.
If you are convinced that outsourcing your content writing is the best solution, but still haven’t found the ideal copywriter for it, here’s an, ahem, idea:
